Five Metal Masonry was born out of sheer love for South Indian Bronze Panchaloha sculptures.
What began as an interest in the form, craftsmanship and iconography of traditional bronzes gradually grew into Five Metal Masonry.
Founded in 2024, we work closely with traditional bronze artisans to create Panchaloha icons rooted in South Indian sculptural practice. Our approach brings together iconographic study, silpa-sastra references, sculptural development and traditional lost-wax casting, with close attention to form, proportion, attributes and detailing.
Each Five Metal Masonry bronze reflects this combination of passion, study, craftsmanship and respect for tradition.
ICONOGRAPHY
Iconography — the identification and study of sculptural forms — and iconometry — the principles of measurement and proportion — are integral to the South Indian sculptural tradition.
At Five Metal Masonry, we study, document and share these traditions, with particular attention to form, attributes, posture, ornamentation and proportion.
Our ongoing iconography studies are published on Instagram at @fivemetalmasonry. with the aim of making this knowledge accessible and fostering a deeper understanding of South Indian bronze sculpture.
